News from the Lions Den...

Since 1917, Lions Clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community and have been dedicated at offering those people the opportunity to give something back to their communities.

Many clubs are renowned for the help they give to their local hospital or hospice. However, Lions work can range from involving members in project such as cleaning up a community park to providing a childrens playground and senior citizen programmes. In general, all Lions Club help those less fortunate than themselves and pay particular attention to those who need it most.

It is the hands on role in improving people’s quality of life that really encapsulates the spirit of a Lion

If this sounds like you then we would love to meet you. We are running two information evenings on 6th March at Dagnall village hall and Eaton Bray village hall on 4th April. Both of these events start at 7.30pm. You will be able to meet some of our existing members, see and hear first hand about some of our projects and even have a bite to eat with us at the end of the evening.

We are particularly excited about the 6th March as our Past International Director, Lion Bill Biggs will be joining us. Bill has held the highest position in the Lions organisation in the world (covering 2.8 million members). If there is every a good opportunity to find out about this international organisation and the work we do then this is the time.

We will have various exhibitions running throughout the evening enabling you to find out more and there will be a light supper provided at the end of the night.

We are a friendly bunch of people from all walks of life and are as diverse as the projects we support. We don’t have strict rules to be abided by and we only ask for the time and effort you are able to commit to.

We loved the opportunity to meet with so many of you at the Eaton Bray pantomime and were encouraged to hear that some many of you read and enjoy our monthly articles. There were also several of you who expressed an interest in coming to join our club so we really hope you take the opportunity to come along and find out more.

If you aren’t able to make either of these dates for any reason, then you are always most welcome to come along to one of our meetings. We meet once a month in the Coffee Tavern in Eaton Bray – it’s always the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm. Our meeting details can also be found on our website.

Over the course of the 3 pantomime nights, our club raised just short of £500.00 which will be donated to the Medical Detection Dogs – a local charity that we have supported in the past.

We have also recently been working with a group of youngsters on a scheme called “Dragons Apprentice”. This is an annual challenge that encourages schools, businesses and charities to work together. Through volunteering it offers young people the opportunity to put their entrepreneurial ideas to the test and helps develop work related skills. We worked with a group from St. Albans who’s nominated charity was National Association for Colitis and Crohns Disease (NACC). Amongst other things, they had some golfing packages donated to them but the group didn’t have the IT skills to promote this – which is where we came in. Using our website as a platform, the packages were advertised, promoted and ultimately auctioned off. All of the money raised will be donated to the local branch of NACC.

We are always involved in fundraising ideas and hope that our events provide entertainment for local residents. Our next big event promises to be a real treat. We are giving you the opportunity to get your hands on some of the Hottest tickets in Town!

On Saturday 19th May, PARADOX are coming to Eaton Bray. The cracking covers band will be recreating classic cuts like Clapton and The Culture Club through to contemporary contenders such as Coldplay, the Chilli Peppers and The Kaiser Chief's!!!

Paradox is a 6-piece covers band are based in Leighton Buzzard. Formed ten years ago, their mission is to get people rocking. To support this, we have a full bar license for the event to make your evening really go with a swing.
