Renewable Energy Systems are a subsidiary of the Sir Robert McAlpine construction company. I work at the head office in Kings Langley. Although RES is the largest company that I’ve worked for it still has a friendly working environment in an interesting place to work.
My job is to develop new and maintain existing applications used internally within RES. These applications are used to select good sites to build a windfarm and to design optimum turbines layouts for those sites.
New development work is done in C# but there is currently still a large number of legacy Visual Basic 6 applications. These are slowly being converted into the more modern C# language as this improves reliability and maintainability.
I’m getting to travel quite a bit as part of my job. I’ve been to the office in Glasgow a number of times and even made it out to the office in Austin, Texas. Recently I’ve been on a training course in Copenhagen.
