Back to Reykjavík

We caught the bus from the hotel carpark back to Akureyri. The trip took about an hour. The early start was to allow a connection with the bus from Akureyri to Reykjavík. This bus takes the coastal route, the Icelandic ring road which would probably have been interesting. However, we'd chosen to take a plane back as it didn't cost much extra. This left at 4 o'clock in the afternoon so we had a day free in Akureyri. The tourist office at the bus stop looked after our bags so we set off to walk around the town.

We rapidly discovered that although one day in Akureyri is fun, the town doesn't really have enough attractions for a second day, especially if that day is a Sunday. Most shops were closed but we enjoyed a few icecreams at various cafes. We also spent several hours sitting in the sun at the botanical gardens.

When it was time to go to the airport we went back to the tourist office to collect our bags. They were good enough to call us a taxi. We flew back to Reykjavík on a Fokker-50. It was a short 40 minute flight but they did serve us a glass of mineral water. At Reykjavík city airport we got a taxi back to the hotel Oak where we had spent the first night.
